The Compliance Specialist is responsible for monitoring the regulatory compliance of a specific portfolio of properties to ensure adherence to HUD Section 8, Low Income Housing Tax Credit, Rural Housing and other applicable Housing Program requirements. The duties of this full-time position will primarily include the review and approval of Move In Applications, Interim Recertifications and Annual Recertifications. This involves the review of verifications as well as calculations listed on the certifications. Also responsible for Compliance Reporting to regulatory agencies as well as responses to questions and concerns from these agencies; support and assist field staff; assist with Special Projects as needed.

Responsibilities
Position Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Approve Move In Applications for program eligibility as needed
2. Review and Approve Program Violations for HUD properties
3. Review a percentage of all recertifications
4. Process and submit timely all required monthly, quarterly and annual compliance reporting.
5. Oversee the Rent Up of new properties or Acquisition Rehabs-organize and submit first year files to Syndicators and make any recommended corrections to those file when requested.
6. Store both electronic and physical copies of first year files appropriately.
7. Assist field staff with Compliance related questions



Qualifications
Required Experience:

Minimum of two years of experience in a similar position or a background in the banking or similar industry is highly desirable. Prior Affordable Housing experience as well as knowledge of Affordable Housing Programs is a plus.

Required Education/Training:
High School Diploma Required.
Certifications in Affordable Housing Compliance are a plus and required within one year of employment.



Required Skills and Abilities:
Strong math and data entry skills, highly organized and detail oriented, excellent communication skills, self-motivated.



Working Conditions:
Office environment
Some overnight travel and overtime required
